Club Majority Junior Essay Prize 2025

We are excited to launch our annual Junior Essay Prize.

Eating disorders are often misunderstood and not always recognised in people from different backgrounds—like those who are from minority ethnic backgrounds, older, LGBTQ+, male, neurodivergent, religious, disabled, or from poorer families. We believe real change starts by listening to and learning from the people whose experiences have often been left out of the usual conversations and support systems.

At Club Majority, we believe in Eating Disorders Care, Benefitting All™.

Theme

Advancing Eating Disorder Care

Essay Task

Write an essay, in the form of a letter, to a social media company about the role their platform plays in the development of body image and food-related issues among underrepresented groups*. Suggest practical steps the company can take to create a safer and more inclusive space—and explain how these changes could help advance eating disorder care and prevention for everyone.

Information

  • We particularly welcome submissions that reflect an understanding of the topic, awareness of inequality, clear and persuasive communication, creative and original thinking, and connection to the theme (advancing eating disorder care).

  • The essay should be no more than 1000 words (minimum of 600 words).

  • The essay must be your own original work; you can include lived experience or opinions, but if you use any facts or quotes, they should be referenced in a simple way (any references used should be presented clearly and will not be considered part of the word limit).

  • Entries will be shortlisted and judged by an expert panel.

  • Only one submission is allowed per applicant.

  • Entries must be written in English.

  • If you win or are shortlisted, you (and your parent/guardian) must give permission for your work to be published or shared publicly (e.g. on our website or social media, with your first name or anonymously—your choice).

  • All essays must be the original work of the applicant alone.

  • Plagiarism of any kind is strictly prohibited.

  • Use of AI writing tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, etc.) is not allowed; essays suspected to be generated or assisted by AI will be disqualified.
